Where to go Cross-country Skiing

To ski Yosemite is something winter sports enthusiasts look forward to every year. There are a number of popular places in the park and nearby areas where cross-country skiing can be done. Besides marked trails at Crane Flat and Mariposa Grove, you’ll find other favorites. The following are only a few:

  • Badger Pass Ski Area
Yosemite skiing is probably best at the Badger Pass Ski Area, with over 90 miles of trails. Take a 21-mile roundtrip trek to popular Glacier Point. In February, you can enjoy the Annual Nordic Holiday race.
  • Tuolumne Meadows
Another great destination for skilled skiers is Tuolumne Meadows, with the best access from the eastern side of the Sierras. You’ll find a comfortable ski hut for shelter about 8 miles west of Tioga Pass, with a wood stove, wood, electric lights and hotplate to cook something to eat.
  • Lee Vining
Around Lee Vining and nearby June Mountain, there is plenty of cross-country skiing available. In fact, wherever there is some snow and a parking place, you’ll find places to begin your cross-country skiing adventure.
  • Stanislaus National Forest
On the western and northern border of Yosemite, Stanislaus National Forest offers all kinds of winter sports. Over its thousands of acres, you’ll discover premiere cross-country skiing as well as great snowmobiling.
