In the Yosemite National Park region of California, golf is a popular pursuit. Many visitors enjoy combining a trip to this natural attraction with a chance to enjoy a few rounds of the sport. The golf courses here are well-kept and nicely designed and are also surrounded by plenty of natural beauty.
Yosemite National Park has boasted its very own golf course since 1918, when it became the first regulation course in the Sierra Nevada. This 9-hole, par-35 course was designed by Walter G. Favarque and includes two challenging par-five holes. Known as the Wawona Golf Course, it attracts golfers of all levels who enjoy a tranquil experience.
Other area golf courses include the Sierra Golf Course at the Sierra Meadows Country Club in Ahwahnee, California. Golfing vacations often include tee time at this 18-hole course designed by Alan Thomas. Also in Ahwahnee is the River Creek 9-hole public course designed by John Hilborn and opened in 2006.
Recently redesigned by Robert Trent Jones, the private course at Greenhorn Creek Golf Club in Angels Camp is also quite impressive. Additionally, the public Pine Mountain Lake Golf Course in Groveland was voted one of the "Top 15 Best Courses to Play in Northern California."
