Sacramento, California came into being because of the California Gold Rush, with thousands of people flooding here to gain their wealth. It's located right on the Sacramento and American Rivers and thus has become known as River City. Nick-named by residents as Sac or Sactown, it's a place full of history about the old West.
Take some time here in Sacramento. Of course, you should take in a Kings game at ARCO Arena. But it's also important to bring the whole family to tour the Old Sacramento Historic Area. This is where you'll really get a taste of history. There are old wooden sidewalks, cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages. There are museums and shops showing the historical character of this city. Stop by and view Sutter's Fort, the first settlement in Sacramento.
The city has numerous lodging options, from motels, hotels, vacation rentals and of course campgrounds and RV parks in the surrounding areas. You won't have a lack of places to stay.
To get to Sacramento from Yosemite, it only takes about three hours. Go on CA-140 to CA-120. From there you will get on CA-99 north, to I-80 west and follow the signs.
